Hello,
I recently changed jobs and computers and a few days ago, downloaded the newest ODV version 4.3.6 2010 for Mac OS X. I don't remember having any difficulty importing date and time columns into ODV when using earlier ODV versions on a PC machine - nor on an earlier ODV 4 on a Mac OS X. ( I see another update was released today, but it doesn't mention date/time revisions.)

My data are in a txt (tab delimited) file - included is a single "column" with the date/time info contained in the format:
yyyy-mm-ddThh:mm:ss.sss
with a column heading of
[yyyy-mm-ddThh:mm:ss.sss]

note that I actually have a letter "T" separating the date & time - maybe that's my problem - I shouldn't be so literal?

The column [yyyy-mm-ddThh:mm:ss.sss] "imports" with the rest of the data columns, but it is not interpreted as date and time date for station ID purposes. My goal is to be able to use "date /time" choices under "station selection criteria".

I am not a programming expert, but I have used ODV successfully many times before - so I'm not clear why I 'm having so much trouble now - the HELP guides and the forum haven't enlightened me. In the past, I remember the ODV guide providing an exact template for the first several columns or so. This version doesn't seem to require that, but maybe I should try to find a copy of my old template and try that?

Thanks, V-

NEVERMIND!

I changed my date & time to 2 separate columns in my txt file choosing formats I found listed under the "convert" button along the way in the import process.

For anyone confused by the directions... I will try to explain:
1) Highlight the date (or time) on the left side - (and I suppose it would work fine using one column with both date & time info in the column as long as it is formatted in one of the choices listed under the "convert" button - but i'm not going back to check that now....)
2) Highlight YEAR on the right side
3) Click convert button
4) choose the appropriate matching format and hit ok
5) you should see an asterisk on the date on the left side AND asterisks next to Year, Month and DAY (assuming you had those 3 items formated in your orignal date column)

Similar for time - convert automatically associates multiple variable.

Guess I had to give up and write to the forum in order to crack open my dense brain in order to solve myself! Apologize for taking up space, but this might help someone else???

Hi all,

When omitting the square brackets ODV will recognize the column as station date and time (meta-)information and import the format correctly.

If you want to keep the square brackets you can enter the information manually. Once the "Meta Variable Association" dialog pops up, select "[yyyy-mm-ddThh:mm:ss.sss]" on the left and "Year" on the right side. Press the "Convert" button and select "Date as yyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss.sss >> Date & Datetime". Afterward everything from "Year" to "Second" should be marked. Please note that it doesn't matter whether you use a "T" between date and time.

Cheers, Stephan
