Hi,

I'm trying to use ODV to create some vertical slices of model output. I've been getting crashes regularly, so I trimmed down my data to 75x42x23 (7245 data points, 3mb) to make sure it wasn't a memory issue. Upon trying to draw the station map, ODV still crashes with either a Bus error or a segmentation fault. (Occasionally the Bus error comes with " <Error>: ripc_GetColor - CGColorTransformConvertColorFloatComponents failed", but not often.)

I noticed that at one point, it had made a .Data directory, without write access. The Bus error came with a "could not open for writing .Data/settings" error. I chmoded the .Data directory to have write access, but that didn't fix the crashing.

I'm using a netCDF 3.6.2 data file on OSX 10.5.8, 5gb memory, Xeon processors. I know that ODV ships with netCDF 3.6.1, but I don't know if that's the cause of the crashes.

Any help would be appreciated, and I'm happy to provide any debugging information/work needed.

Thanks,

Jesse

Hi Jesse,

Can you please send your 3MB netCDF files that causes ODV to crash and the .Data folder to odv@awi.de. Then I can try to find out what's the problem. If I understand you right, all I have to do is try to open the netCDF file and once I am finished with the emulation part ODV crashes when drawing the map. Or are there any further steps involved ?

Cheers, Stephan

Hi Stephan

Email is sent. I'm wondering now if it's not a permissions problem, as I'm getting more "could not open for writing" errors involving .Data/ files. Generally they occur after opening data, selecting variables, when it starts to draw the map. However, most of the time it fails silently with just a "Bus error" or segmentation fault.

However, it's not a consistent issue - I was able to make some plots this morning using data that it crashed on earlier this morning.

Thanks for the help,

Jesse
