Dear ODV User:
Version 4.5.0 of Ocean Data View is now available for download from http://odv.awi.de/en/software/download/ (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Solaris-i386).
This is a major release with many new features and bug-fixes. ODV now supports local and remote netCDF4 files, and data retrievals from netCDF files are now much faster than before. ODV collections now support data variables of type text, which allows maintaining text descriptions, comments or web-links per data value. Web-links are clickable and ODV opens the link in web browser. ODV now has an importer for Sea-Bird .cnv files.
For a detailed list of recent changes see below.

four steps and in many cases can be run through by simply pressing
OK each time.
-- Drastic performance improvements when loading data into SCATTER and
SURFACE windows from netCDF files (local or remote).
-- Data variables of type TEXT are now supported in ODV spreadsheet,
SeaDataNet data files and ODV collections. See section 16.3.2 in
the ODV User's Guide for more information.

release 4.4.2. This has been fixed.
