Can You show example .cnv files good for import?
Is possible change usable .cnv header on ODV setting?

Hi Konstantin,

Here's the example you were asking for:

* Sea-Bird SBE 9 Data File:
* ...
* NMEA Latitude = 44 01.56 N
* NMEA Longitude = 152 55.23 E
* NMEA UTC (Time) = May 10 2009 04:58:21
* ...
** Cruise: Cruise-Name
** Station: Station-Name
** Bottom Depth [m]: 123
# ...
# name 0 = depSM: Depth [salt water, m], lat = 44.00
# name 1 = t090C: Temperature [ITS-90, deg C]
# name 2 = sal00: Salinity, Practical [PSU]
# name 3 = flag: 0.000e+00
# ...
*END*
2.444 11.1352 32.8703 0.000e+00
2.560 11.1354 32.8705 0.000e+00
...

I removed everything that is not of interest for ODV when parsing a Sea-Bird CNV file and replaced it by "...". I'd suggest you take a look at ODV's user's guide chapter 4.8 "Sea-Bird CNV Files" to get the whole picture.

Did you encounter any problems when trying to import your own Sea-Bird CNV files ?

Concerning your second question, it's not possible to customize ODV to extract metadata differently. Do you got any ideas about this, you would like to share ?

Cheers, Stephan

PS: Please note that the current release of ODV (which is 4.5.0) is not capable of extracting the bottom depth information. This will be available with the next version.

Hi,

when I try to import seabird cnv into odv I can't see the date and time and the bottom depth of the vertical profile. Is there a solution? I'm using the last version of odv (4.5.1).

Hi,

I'm experiencing problems to import .CNV obtained from FS Maria S. Merian.

It block ODV all time. I've followed the Guide and changed the cnv file as you have mentioned in thos topic.

I've just obained data import when using: Create new collection - Definition of collection variables - Standard templates - MedAtlas CTD.

If I change any thing I blocks. The problem is that there are several other parameters in CNV file.

I send one file cnv as example, can you try to import it?

Hi Catia & Marcio,

Could you please both provide an example file for me to check what's the matter.

Cheers, Stephan

See the attached file for an example of my seabird cnv output.

Hi Catia,

It seems like some features didn't make it into the latest ODV release 4.5.1. Means, the next version of ODV will be able to import your files' time and date information.

Your bottom depth value can only be read if it starts with "Bottom Depth [m]" - just "depth" isn't enough. Again, this will be part of the next version.

Cheers, Stephan

Hi Marcio,

When trying to import your Sea-Bird CNV file ODV enters an infinite loop. This is because there are multiple variables of the same name:
# name 0 = depSM: Depth [salt water, m]
# name 1 = prDM: Pressure, Digiquartz [db]
# name 2 = latitude: Latitude [deg]
# name 3 = longitude: Longitude [deg]
# name 4 = t090C: Temperature [ITS-90, deg C]
# name 5 = potemp090C: Potential Temperature [ITS-90, deg C]
# name 6 = sal00: Salinity, Practical [PSU]
# name 7 = density00: Density [density, Kg/m^3]
# name 8 = seaTurbMtr: Turbidity, Seapoint [FTU]
# name 9 = turbWETntu0: Turbidity, WET Labs ECO [NTU]
# name 10 = flECO-AFL: Fluorescence, WET Labs ECO-AFL/FL [mg/m^3]
# name 11 = sbeox0ML/L: Oxygen, SBE 43 [ml/l]
# name 12 = sbeox0PS: Oxygen, SBE 43 [% saturation]
# name 13 = avgsvCM: Average Sound Velocity [Chen-Millero, m/s]
# name 14 = sal11: Salinity, Practical, 2 [PSU]
# name 15 = upoly0: Upoly 0, Light BS NTU
# name 16 = density00: Density [density, Kg/m^3]
# name 17 = oxsatML/L: Oxygen Saturation, Weiss [ml/l]
# name 18 = potemp090C: Potential Temperature [ITS-90, deg C]
# name 19 = depSM: Depth [salt water, m], lat = 5.65617
# name 20 = svCM: Sound Velocity [Chen-Millero, m/s]
# name 21 = flag: flag

Until the next release of ODV we are going to have discussed or even solved this undesired behavior.

By now, I’d suggest you rename all the duplicates in the files, as done below:

# name 0 = depSM: Depth [salt water, m]
# name 1 = prDM: Pressure, Digiquartz [db]
# name 2 = latitude: Latitude [deg]
# name 3 = longitude: Longitude [deg]
# name 4 = t090C: Temperature [ITS-90, deg C]
# name 5 = potemp090C: Potential Temperature [ITS-90, deg C]
# name 6 = sal00: Salinity, Practical [PSU]
# name 7 = density00: Density [density, Kg/m^3]
# name 8 = seaTurbMtr: Turbidity, Seapoint [FTU]
# name 9 = turbWETntu0: Turbidity, WET Labs ECO [NTU]
# name 10 = flECO-AFL: Fluorescence, WET Labs ECO-AFL/FL [mg/m^3]
# name 11 = sbeox0ML/L: Oxygen, SBE 43 [ml/l]
# name 12 = sbeox0PS: Oxygen, SBE 43 [% saturation]
# name 13 = avgsvCM: Average Sound Velocity [Chen-Millero, m/s]
# name 14 = sal11: Salinity, Practical, 2 [PSU]
# name 15 = upoly0: Upoly 0, Light BS NTU
# name 16 = density00: Density 2[density, Kg/m^3]
# name 17 = oxsatML/L: Oxygen Saturation, Weiss [ml/l]
# name 18 = potemp090C: Potential Temperature 2[ITS-90, deg C]
# name 19 = depSM: Depth 2[salt water, m], lat = 5.65617
# name 20 = svCM: Sound Velocity [Chen-Millero, m/s]
# name 21 = flag: flag

Cheers, Stephan
